Feet In The Sand- a poetry collection

I have now  put 30 of my favorite poems into a collection that can be found on lulu.com.
Titled "Feet In The Sand", it can be purchased for only $7.00 in paperback form.
Here is a preview of what is in the book. I hope it will inspire you to buy the collection.
Just click on the image of the book on the right side. Thank you for reading my blog!

REMEMBER ME

They say one so young is but a child
Of life you do not know
But in my eyes it matters not
Your beauty freely flows

All I can do is think of you
Though I know I have no right
Quiet manner and gentle way
Has drawn me to your light

Walk life's path
A spirit free
Simply strangers whose paths have crossed
But please remember me

STAYING IN

A cold wet rain falls unceasingly
From dark and clouded sky
A cozy throw and favorite book
That's ok, I'm staying in today.

Lending escape to a warmer place
Where ocean birds are calling
Losing myself in bright sunny dreams
And sultry ocean breezes stir.

The sound bouncing from sheer cliffs
Foaming and hissing steadily
Dropping down to pounding waves
Sending echoes through the heart.

HOME

Tall white sandstone sentinel
Seen for miles around
Sits among ocean-smoothed rock
At edge of tiny town

Listening to cry of shore birds
Wandering down low hills
Hearing crash of wild waves
On white washed wooden docks

Ferries cruise across small bay
Drifting flotsam within it's wake
Walking beneath a gold-sun sphere
I'll never leave this tiny place

FOR MARY

Shells are like poetry
Sea- jewels in deep oceans turf
Jah has allowed us to have
Sent to us in pounding surf.
I walk along the shifting sand
And sit upon the sun drenched strand.
I look upon these treasured gifts
And ponder wild sea- swell drifts.
Sometimes wild, sometimes calm,
A presence that is a healing balm.
We join together to face the strife,
we weather this temptous stormy life.
So my friend remember please,
You are a true friend that has no price.
Just like these tiny shells,
Your friendship will more then suffice.
No power on earth can take this away.

Cinquain Poetry

To teach is not endless babble. Show the student the  point of the lesson, and then be quiet and let them fly.
The same goes for writing poetry. Some will soar sooner then others. Poetry is an art that must be learned in
one's own way, at their own speed.
On saying that, this is what I have been playing around with this week.

A Cinquain is a  five line poem that consists of

1st line- 2 syllables
2nd line- 4 syllables
3rd line- 6 syllables
4th line- 8 syllables
5th line- 2 syllables

Windy

Trees bowing low

Mighty storm is blowing

Angry gods rage throwing lightning

Calm now

And from this simple Cinquain comes this, which can be made as long or short as you wish.
I will be adding more to it for a future poem.

Trees bow low
Shaking fearfully

And angry gods throw lightening
As the mighty storm rages

First Impressions

Like the saying goes, first impressions are usually the  right ones.
I wrote this poem about my next door neighbors friend, who hangs out over there quite a bit.
He is a very interesting guy.
First Impression, hehe.

HIPPY

Blasting Hendrix tunes
Through an ancient radio
The round shades you wear
With that silly grin on your face

Weaving flowers through all your friends hair
Busily flashing the peace sign

Sitting in the sun
On that rickety dock
Yelling "peace" out your volks-van window
To all on the block

I have never seen anyone
As unique as you!

Cento Poetry

It seems the old saying that you learn something new every day is really true, especially in writing poetry.
I accidently found this wonderful website called writeshop.com while just looking around for poetry blogs,
and it teaches how to write what is called Cento poetry. I have never heard of this, so I'm determined to
learn it! I'll be starting out using some of my owm poems, then will go from there. I'll list the poems I use
for each line, and be sure to check out this amazing website too! (writeshop.com). I will be doing more of
this also.

A cold wet rain falls unceasingly

Startling unsuspecting passers

Great shadow passes

as hushed tranquility descended.
